Second year at IMD

 

IMD logoCross-sector, cross-culture, cross-boundary learning is alive and well. My second year at IMD continues to be filled with rich intellectual and creative stimulation. I worked with finance professor Arturo Bris in Advanced Strategic Management (ASM). In this intensive program, 42 participants from 27 countries in 23 industries each clarified how to deal most effectively with a significant business challenge. IMD professors shared innovative tools, frameworks and lenses to analyze unique dilemmas and the extraordinary group learned as much from each other.

I was in a panel discussion, Bottom Up Entrepreneurship for Democracy and Development, led by Iqbal Quadir, Director of MIT’s Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship, hosted by IMD’s Evian Group led by international political economy professor Jean-Pierre Lehman.

It was co-hosted by The Business Humanitarian Forum (BHF) and opened by its Director John King. Panelists were John Maresca, BHF President and Rector of the UN-mandated University for Peace and IMD finance professor Salvatore Cantale. We engaged in discussion with 75 participants from Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

IMD also hosted its annual CEO Roundtable, which this year was led by finance and governance professor Didier Cossin who heads one of IMD’s Global Centers on Governance and runs the High Performance Boards (HPB) program. CEOs from around the world engaged in a lively format of interactive table discussions following each crisp presentation on a different key governance issue.

With all this and my participation in IMD customized partnership programs for several companies while continuing my research and writing, I haven’t had a dull moment yet.     Part of the challenge of such diversity in my experience is in ensuring that any decision reached are the ‘best possible outcome’ of these differences rather than the ‘lowest common denominator’ – this requires great skill on the part of those delivering the programmes.

    Compromises are easy but they don’t serve us well in the long run.

    Peter’s comments are absolutely correct in the case of any ordinary human-being, but my experience with Nadine is that she is anything but a normal human-being. She comes prepared to everything that I’ve been a part of, has done her homework, exhibits compelling curiosity about what others are doing and is able to build bridges without sacrificing her expertise. No compromises! should be part of her motto.
    It is really a delight to have her here at IMD!

    Some excellent achievements in the year Nadine i have kept to date with most of these events, courses and seminars and it is clear the type of impact these are having. I am not surprised to hear Bill Fisher’s comments and I am sure many echo this. Building bridges and connecting the world is a significant task that only significant people undertake.

    I have had the pleasure of having worked with you at Rewiring Business. I am sure IMD are proud and honoured to have you and looking forward to the next blog on how your second year went.

    Dear Nadine,

    So many means flourish to connect people
    In this world able to transport views and sounds instantaneously
    Yet communication continues to be The challenge
    Even between ones’ right and left brain, insight and rational, family and business
    The challenge but also the opportunity to create tomorrow
    You are probably right to contribute to bridge business and life
    maybe the only way for both to live in the future
    And may I suggest that artisans of this shall be those who already resolved this dilemma for themselves

    Hi Nadine, I love the way you connect with people, and your clients with your blog beCause. I only pray that I can present my blog to the public as well. Bringing in content seem to be my largest problem. Nadine I’ll keep on writing I won’t give up. The One thing I’ve learn on the internet is; that you can’t give up on your dream!
