McKayla & Amie with Nadine & Jerry in Lutry SwitzerlandI’m finding my niche, seven weeks into Executive-in-Residence at IMD: master bridge-builder; a role that has applicability in much of the executive education knowledge exchange being done here.  I‘ve begun to focus on why businesses should engage with non-market, non-traditional stakeholders for current brand value as a basis for long term value creation with Paul Strebel who leads the High Performance Boards program.  I’ll continue to develop this further with Didier Cossin who next year will take over this program.  I’m writing about creating and sustaining mutually beneficial cross-sector partnerships to support an exciting body of research by Tom Malnight and Kees van der Graaf And I’m finding my stride in my local village where the butcher, baker, winemaker and most others now know me, improving my French daily.  My granddaughter and her two friends who are bicycling through Europe just spent several days based with us and it was heaven!

Congratulations on your great new engagement, Nadine!

I thought I was on a life/career in transition but wan’t quite sure where to, given this truly changing world. You are the closest definition I have known in recent times of the new direction I want to take. I am elated to know of the IMD, and will follow it and you in action. Thanks for being, and sharing your example…

    Greetings Nadine

This is to share a carefully incubated project, now ready for lift off, with the wider audience of your readers as per your suggestion.

The Women and Youth Leadership Alliance (WAYLA) has constructed and readied for launch, a venture that will heal, support and economically empower girls and women who have survived large scale gender-based sexual violence in Monrovia, Liberia.

We are “networked” at senior levels, and having gained traction and momentum on both the US and Liberian sides over the past two years, are currently shopping for, 1) humanitarian contributions for one dimension of the project and, 2) a private equity group, or “investment angel” for a related, jobs creation, manufacture and export spin off..

Insights and facilitators would be invaluable at this stage of, 1) humanitarian project, and, 2) business enterprise development.

A project synopsis is available online at: pamelaboycesimms.wordpress.com

    Dear Nadine:

It is wonderful that IMD is considering non traditional stakeholders. Please make sure to bring the voice of the local community wherever you are.

I am working now with Asian American communities in the US and building a bridge with non-governmental organizations in Vietnam.

Look forward to hearing more about your work.

Again Congratulations, IMD is so lucky to have you. DId you tell them to fasten their saftey belts for the Nadine power drive that lies ahead? Hearing your voice yesterday was magic for my soul and balm to my spirit! And seeing the pics of you, Jerry and the girls was wonderful. Can’t wait to be with you. Am checking dates….looking forward to Sundays–our special time. …

As to non-traditional stakeholders: I have spent 3 years now–developing some amazing relationships w/ stakeholders from communities that can only be described as cross-traditional mixtures of multiple or “new identity” groups–that have special interests, be it geographic, demographic, gender, racial and ethnically diverse entities that resist labels, political party or specific focus yet have learned how to express and leverage their power. For example, communities who measure progress across all educational issues/metrics. Happy to share, if helpful.
    much love from here, JA

I can think of no one more qualified to be a “Master Bridge-Builder” than you, Nadine. I know you will bring your exceptional philanthropic vision, consensus-building skills and innovative problem-solving talents to your mission at IMD.

In your blog post, you bring up the issue of why corporations should care about non-traditional stakeholders. As a speaker, who focuses on ethical ways to influence decisions, I believe corporations can not afford to forget about this sector. They are not just “non-traditional stakeholders, but also “non-traditional influencers.” Every day their voices are gaining strength through the proliferation of social media.

You had shared with me a study that showed how retention of quality employees was positively impacted by companies who were “good corporate citizens.” Did that study, or perhaps another that you know of, have any data on how “doing the right thing” engaged customers or build loyalty?
